Book Review - CHAMPIONSHIP FIGHTING by Jack Dempsey

In this video, I review one of the best books written on boxing, CHAMPIONSHIP FIGHTING: EXPLOSIVE PUNCHING & AGGRESSIVE DEFENSE by Jack Dempsey.

If you would like to buy this book based on my review, you can do so by following this link:

ABOUT THIS VIDEO: Jack Dempsey was the man. The man who had a knockout lead punch. He didn't even call it a jab; he called it "the straight jolt."

In this book, Dempsey talks about the mechanics of something he called "the drop step," which I was introduced to at a local JKD school. (SIDE NOTE: My exposure to the drop step was the ONLY good thing to come out of my time at that place.)

He also goes into the mechanics of the hook, uppercut, and shovel hook. It is amazing how a lot of his tips can be transferred to Wing Chun training.

Naturally, there are some techniques that do NOT translate well, like the defensive moves of the slip, bob and weave, and snap back. However, there are far more similarities than differences, and I feel justified in saying this book would make a fine addition to any martial artist's library.
